Retelling The Billy Goats Gruff

Dear Libby,

You were very enthusiastic about our inquiry into stories. You especially liked the story of The Billy Goats Gruff. When we came back from the theatre performance of the story, you wanted to retell the story through drama and music with your friends. Through this activity, you showed confidence and creativity.

When I asked you about this activity, you said:

"My favourite part was the song."

Developing as a Speaker

Dear Libby,

One of your goals this year has been to work on speaking. This included your personal goal of saying 'good morning' to your classmates during our Morning Meetings. You have made a lot of progress this year and have much more confidence in speaking. Nearly every day you sign up for sharing personal items during our Morning Meeting and you are using your words to speak about these items more regularly (rather than just showing them).

You have also been working with friends lately on projects that you then want to present or share through speaking. Here you are sharing a book you created with Cailynne:

Great commitment to developing your speaking skills Libby! You have been a reflective risk-taker!

Writing: Before & After

Dear Libby,

You have made a lot of progress in writing this year. Here is a sample of your work from September:

This piece shows that you could hear and write some consonant sounds at the beginning and end of single words. Here is a piece of your work from April:

This piece shows that you can now write most beginning sounds correctly. You are also working on hearing and recording ending and middle sounds.

Congratulations on your progress in writing Libby! You have worked hard.

Finishing The Pattern

Easy Blog Photo

Dear Libby,

When we talked about your most important work from our inquiry into patterns you showed me this piece from your math journal. You explained: "There's different colours and shapes together and it was hard but I was thinking hard". I agree that this is a challenging pattern because it combines shapes and colours. You worked hard to analyze the pattern carefully and determine what shape and colour should come next.
